Jags undefeated vs the Niners

November 25th, 2009 | by Nate Bruce |

First of all,  let me wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING to every one from myself  and the entire FanBall Network. Now lets get down to business. In the fourteen years of the Jaguars franchise, the Teal and Black have never lost to San Francisco. That sounds like a great stat but this will be the first time ever that the Jags have played in San Fran and this will be meeting three between the franchises. Hopefully the team will show up this time because the last West coast trip was in Seattle and the team didnt even get off the plane getting waxed 41-0. If the team wants any playoff chance, this is a must win because the Titans are playing well and this might be the break they need with Houston losing.

Toughest matchups for both teams:

The Jags secondary who will still be without Mathis again with a groin injury will be slowing down TE Vernon Davis. Davis has eight TD’s this year and 601 receiving yards. With Davis spreading the defense, look out for RB Frank Gore who will try to pound the defensive line. He averages over five yards per carry for the team and is a real tough work horse. The team should be fine against QB Alex Smith who is inconsistent as they come. It will be interesting to watch WR Michael Crabtree after all the hype of him being the highest drafted WR in the 09 draft out of Texas Tech. Personally, I would love for him to take a crossing route or post route and get laid out by Reggie Nelson for acting like a brat and being a greedy little punk.

The 49ers secondary is banged up right now so now is the time for Garrard to keep up his good play. He made a great GW drive connecting multiple times to Sims-Walker and MoJo against the Bills. If Garrard can open up the running  lanes and protect the ball, MoJo will go off because he has to get going again. Biggest stat for Jones-Drew, 10 TD’s in 6 wins but only has 3 TD’s in the 4 losses. Jones-Drew is headed back to California and headed near his college stomping grounds of UCLA so that is the key to getting back going and keeping the streak alive.

Reuniting of great former teammates.

It will be the first time this year that Jags WR Tory Holt gets to play opposite of former “Greatest Show on Turf” WR Isaac Bruce. Bruce and Holt havent played together for a while when they were on the Rams and obviously Garrard and Smith are no Kurt Warner. But those two guys put up a show and even as their careers are winding down now and both should be headed to Canton, its nice for them to have one last fight. Look for Holt to outshine Bruce but neither of them will have that big of an impact because Sims-Walker is the best WR the Jags have and the leader of the receiving corps.
