Garrard and Scobee help 49ers win 20-3

November 29th, 2009 | by Nate Bruce |

The biggest need for the Jags in the 2010 NFL draft will be a new QB behind Garrard. Garrard was 25 of 36 passing for 307 yards but had two fumbles in the red zone. Twice the Jags tried to convert 4th downs in the red zone but Garrard took sacks. The OL gave up 5 sacks but you have got to be able to get rid of the ball on 4th down. I was on the Fanball Fantasy Buffet radio show and I told the hosts, Ray Flowers and Kyle Elfrink, the biggest improvement Garrard had to have is to hold on to the ball. This should be a huge need in the offseason to get a backup because Todd Bowman and Luke McCown will not be able to help either.

Kickers need pay cuts

Professional kickers in the NFL merit pay because if you miss two FG’S, both from less than 40 yards, you should pay back the team. Josh Scobee missed a 21 yard FG by hitting the upright with the kick which is one yard farther than an extra point. High school kickers can make that and that is a drive killer and swing momentum immediately. You arent going to win many NFL games or make the playoffs if you cant get the guaranteed points on the board. Nedney kicked in the same environment and made both of his FG’s with a long of 46.
