Jags playoff chances shrink as Dolphins win 14-10
December 13th, 2009 | by Nate Bruce |The Jags offense was inconsistent and absent for most of this game as the Dolphins DL destroyed the Jags OL. Jones Drew was held to 59 yards rushing and David Garrard threw for a sad 11 of 26 completions for 139 yards. Jags defense started slow giving up big plays in their Cover 2 pass defense to Chad Henne and WR Greg Camarillo. You could really see how much the Jags were missing big DT John Henderson because Ricky Williams was able to run for over 100 yards. The Jags could never stop FB Lousaka Polite as he picked up big 3rd and 4th down conversions bruising his way thru the Jags line.
The Jags defense were able to keep the game close in the 2nd half by forcing a total of 3 turnovers including 2 fumbles by Ricky Williams and one missed field goal. They are lucky the Dolphins sputtered in the 2nd half because they dominated time of possesion holding the ball for 35:04. Once again, the Jags had no pass rush and were without Rashean Mathis another week with a groin injury. This doesnt look for the Thursday night battle against the undefeated Colts in Jacksonville. Peyton Manning will be able to pick the defense apart and Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne will have big games.
The only spark on the offense was Tory Holt gaining 63 yards on a double post move and making the best play of the day for the team. The Jags were never able to move the ball consistently because Garrard was either running for his life or making bad passes. He made a lot of bad decisions and rarely threw to anyone but TE’s Lewis and Miller. A QB will be a must for the 2010 draft as Garrard is not a great passer to win when the team cant run. He still has great legs but is not that good a pocket passer. He has to improve his crossing routes passing because too many times he missed open receivers.
